Lanarkshire Treasure Hunt App
VisitLanarkshire is announcing that tourists can now experience Lanarkshire attractions like never before with a locally designed interactive treasure hunt app.
The Global Treasure App allows visitors to gain insight into the history of each attraction, find out fun facts, listen to great audio and answer location based questions to pick up rewards. The app has varying levels of complexity allowing everyone to get involved from the biggest history buffs to young children.
The app is already live at Summerlee Museum, the Antonine Wall and Chatelherault Country Park where it has already been downloaded one thousand times. Now, working in partnership with the tourism bodies, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture as well as CultureNL, VisitLanarkshire is announcing that the app is being launched at Low Parks Museum and the Hamilton Mausoleum.
The app has been developed to be downloadable in Chinese, this is on the back of the number of Chinese visitors to the UK tripling in the past few years. The app is also available in English, French, Spanish and German.
Chair of the Lanarkshire Tourism Association, Mark Calpin, said “Embracing digital innovation and enhancing partnerships with key organisations is an integral part of our strategic tourism plan, which underpins our objectives to make Lanarkshire one of the top visitor destinations in Scotland. “Smart phones and other digital devices have dramatically changed the way visitors interact with their surroundings. Recognising this, we are working to ensure that 21st century visitors get the most out of their visit to Lanarkshire.”
Speaking of their experience, Laura Cleland, Recreation Manager at Chatelherault said, “At Chatelherault visitors can use the technology to navigate around the ancient woodlands, or explore the 18th century hunting lodge. Players have the chance to challenge family and friends to treasure hunts, with the winning team being able to pick up their prize from our gift shop. We have had great feedback from our customers and are confident that our many Chinese visitors will enjoy the game also.”
