Hamilton Tae Kwon-Do Students Medal Wins
Tae kwon-do instructor Brian McGowan praised his students after they took an impressive 26 medals from the Scottish Championships last month.
A total of 41 competitors from McGowan’s Blackbelt Academy won nine gold, six silver and 11 bronze medals at the event, held at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell on April 9.
The competitors ranged in age from six to 41, and their brilliant performances put the Burnbank club top of the medal tables.
Medal winners for sparring were:
Gold: Vitali Burlakov, Sophie Harnes, Isla Hay, Alana Moody.
Silver: Lauren Connor, Harry McNulty.
Bronze: Nicole Connor, Rachel Steven, Niamh Anderson, Leechan Graham, Reece Main, Ethan Gilbride, Rhys Moody.
Medal winners for patterns were:
Gold: Rachel Steven, Vitali Burlakov, Lauren Connor, Alana Moody.
Silver: Laura Dolan, Robert Campbell, Peter Burlakov.
Bronze: Nicole Connor, Nicole McGowan, Isla Hay.
Medal winners for special technique were:
Gold: Bartosz Stepkowski.
Silver: Vitali Burlakov.
Bronze: Alana Moody.
Senior instructor Brian McGowan said: We’ve been up and running for just five years, so to go along to the championships and see such fantastic results is a credit to the students and the support we have from parents, instructors and coaches.
“We have our own professional martial arts centre, which really helps with their training, and we spend a lot of time getting our students ready for these events – it has really paid off.
“We are really proud, seeing our club so high up the medal table as well.”
McGowan’s Blackbelt Academy is a family-run full-time martial arts centre based in Burnbank, Hamilton, offering professional tuition. They have classes for ages three and above.
