Two South Lanarkshire College students hope to prove they are a cut above the rest as they prepare for the finals of a national hairdressing competition.
Hairdressing students Heather Gibson and Hazel Watson have gained a place at the ‘Wella Xposure 2016’ UK final after successfully coming through the photographic rounds.
The duo won their places after coming through the regional heats, which saw them design their own unique commercial cut and colour, using Wella products.
Talented hairdressing students from across the UK will gather at the Wella World Studio in London for the live competition on June 8.
The Wella Xposure awards have been running for over five years, and is aimed at students working toward their NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in hairdressing.
The 20 finalists will battle it out for Gold, Silver and Bronze places and the top prize, which includes £1000 worth of education vouchers, plus the chance to shadow a top hairdresser backstage at the UK final of Wella TrendVision.
Last year South Lanarkshire College student Shannon Devenney claimed bronze in the final, but Heather and Hazel will be hoping for even better this time round.
Hairdressing lecturer Kirstie Crosbie was delighted to see two of her students have their hard work recognised.
She said: “Hazel and Heather have worked really hard on the planning and the development of their looks. The pair entered an in-house competition prior to entering the Wella competition. They were required to produce and present a mood-board of their looks.
“The girls went on to create the look on the models and submit a photographic entry.
“We are delighted that their hard work and creativity was recognised and now we’re all thrilled that they’re off to London for the UK finals.”
