Strathaven Cannabis Farm

02/09/15

Cannabis worth £500,000 has been seized following a police raid in Strathaven.

Officers acting under warrant swooped on a rented warehouse in Hamilton Road Industrial Estate in the quiet market town on Friday as part of an intelligence-led operation.

A huge cannabis cultivation of 781 plants with an estimated street value of £500,000 was recovered. Police executed the raid after receiving a tip-off.

No arrests have been made over the find but police said they are following a positive line of enquiry in an effort to detect the perpetrators.

Sergeant Brian Scanlan said: “This recovery clearly shows just how vital intelligence is to disrupting drug activity. We would urge any other people with information about drug offences in their community to contact police on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

In February 2014, drug squads uncovered a £400,000 cannabis factory in a rented office in Hamilton Road Industrial Estate.

Around 680 cannabis plants worth £370,000 and growing equipment were found.
