SLC Confirm Candidates
Hamilton South will go to the polls on Thursday, August 6.
South Lanarkshire Council have confirmed eight candidates will battle it out at the Hamilton South by-election.
Voters will go to the polls between 7am and 10pm on Thursday, August 6.
The by-election was triggered by the decision of newly-elected Hamilton East SNP MP Angela Crawley to step down from her role as a councillor.
Following the deadline for nominations at 4pm on Friday, the list of candidates was published.
Matthew Peter Cockburn (Scottish Liberal Democrats);
John Kane (Scottish Green Party);
Jim Lee (Scottish Labour Party);
Donald Murdo MacKay (UKIP);
Andrew Jackson McCallum (The Pirate Party);
Lynne Nailon (Scottish Conservative and Unionist);
John MacLennan Ross (Scottish National Party)
Craig Smith (Scottish Christian Party Proclaiming Christ’s Lordship)
Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at North Stand, Cadzow Avenue, Hamilton, ML3 0LU, by midnight on Monday, July 20.

Ms Crawley was the only SNP representative for Hamilton South on South Lanarkshire Council. She was elected as MP for Lanark and Hamilton East at the General Election, winning the seat from Labour’s Jim Hood.
Voters will elect one member for Hamilton south (Ward 19).
The other three existing councillors in Hamilton South – Stuart Gallacher, Joe Lowe and Brian McCaig – all represent the Scottish Labour Party.
