North Lanarkshire Council Awards Planning Consent For Shotts Windfarm
Partnerships for Renewables has won planning consent from North Lanarkshire Council for the 27.2MW West Benhar wind farm in Scotland.
Plans for eight 3.4MW turbines were approved by 11 votes to 6 at a meeting of the planning and transportation committee, in line with the planning officer’s recommendation.
The project, which is the company’s first in the country and will be sited near Shotts, is being developed in partnership with the Forestry Commission Scotland.
Partnerships for Renewables regional manager Alan Mathewson said: “We are delighted that the council has given West Benhar the go-ahead. “Our partnership working with Forestry Commission Scotland led to a strong proposal.”
Forestry Commission Scotland lowlands forest district manager Brent Meakin added: “We are pleased that National Forest Estate will be the home for this development, which will contribute to the Scottish government’s ambitious renewable energy and climate change targets.”
