Hamilton Grammar Pupil Takes Bronze
Hamilton Grammar pupil Jade McGoldrick won a bronze medal for Scotland in tennis doubles at the 2016 School Games at Loughborough University in England.
Jade (16), who was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, qualified for the girls’ wheelchair tennis team at the event, where 1600 junior athletes from Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales competed in various sports events.
The fifth-year pupil played eight wheelchair tennis matches in total during the event.
Jane is studying administration, modern studies and music at Hamilton Grammar.
She is also in a link course at New College Lanarkshire on travel and leisure.
Jade, who is with the 2166 Air Training Cadets and plays violin with the South Lanarkshire Orchestral Society, attended taster sessions at Scottish Disability Sports events and now enjoys playing wheelchair tennis at Scotstoun Sports Campus with GB coach Kevin Simpson.
A Hamilton Grammar spokesperson said: “Jade is a member of the South Lanarkshire Self Direct Support Network, which allows her flexibility to design and personalise her own support, socialising and respite by employing her own personal carer.”
