NLC Sporting Heroes To Be Honoured

North Lanarkshire’s sporting heroes are set to be immortalised in a new hall of fame.

Men and women of all sporting disciplines, past and present, will be considered by the judging panel, which will meet later in the year.

People who live and work in the area will be asked to make suggestions of local sports stars who they would like to see included.

Details of how they can do this will be launched later in the year.

North Lanarkshire Council leader Jim Logue said: “Our area has a rich and proud sporting legacy, which I feel deserves greater recognition. I think it’s right that we create our own sporting hall of fame to celebrate outstanding achievements and to inspire future generations to get involved in sport.”

The announcement of the initial ten inductees to the North Lanarkshire Sports Hall of Fame will be made in November this year.

The hall of fame will be located in the main corridor in the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, with smaller versions of the plaques appearing in associated venues in North Lanarkshire.

If successful, the initiative could be rolled out to include high achievers in the arts, music, culture and business.
