NLC Considers Writing Off Debt
North Lanarkshire Council to decide whether to write off over £147k owed by residents and organisations
Councillors will tomorrow consider whether to write off £147,485 owed in lost tax and services.
The debt to North Lanarkshire council dates back to 1995 and £30,971 is owed by people who died with no estate to pay the money.
A further £116,514 is owed by residents or organisations for council services including repairs, community alarms, hall and park lets.
Members of the Corporate Services Committee will decide tomorrow whether to agree to remove the debt from the council’s books.
Last year the Council collected 94.45% of the £46.6 million council tax owed to the council and recovered 80% of debt worth £18.5 million.
