Motherwell Man Arrested
A 24-year-old man has been arrested after the death of a mum-of-one in a fatal road crash.
Linda Carson, 44, is believed to have been walking her dog with her 11-year-old daughter on the footpath at Muirhouse Road, Motherwell, around 8.20pm when she was struck by a silver Ford Mondeo which was said to have mounted the pavement.
Her husband Robert, is understood to have rushed to the scene after being called by a witness who found his telephone number on the collar of Linda’s pet terrier.
Emergency services attended and Linda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police later named Linda Carson as the victim and said relatives were aware of the incident.
Family were too upset to speak about the incident but one local woman, who did not wish to be named, said Sunday’s fatality had saddened the community. It’s a tragedy. We didn’t witness what happened but arrived home shortly after. We were shocked when we heard what was going on. Everyone still is. She was so young with a lovely family. I can’t imagine how they are feeling. My thoughts are with them all at this difficult time.”
The following day, police appealed for witnesses to the accident. At the time, police said inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Appealing for witnesses, Sergeant John Tait from Motherwell Road Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw what happened to get in touch.”
On Monday 28th, police said that a 24-year-old man had been arrested and taken into police custody. A Police Scotland spokesman added: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested and is at present detained in connection with the incident. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.” The man was expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court Tuesday 29th.
