Money Raised And Donated
Hamilton dementia group Musical Memories hit the jackpot thanks to a Lanarkshire theatre group’s production of Viva Las Vegas.
The renowned Easter Egg Club staged the show in April, but recently handed over a donation of £1000 to the choir that meet in St John’s Church.
Musical Memories is a ground-breaking project that is making a real difference in people’s lives, using music and singing to help people who have experienced dementia or memory
loss. And the big-hearted members of the Easter Egg Club decided to hold a bucket collection for the group during the five-night run of Viva Les Vegas at Motherwell Theatre.
Easter Egg Club member Julie Little is pictured handing over a cheque for £1000 to the choir’s president, Sam Thompson.
The Easter Egg Club was formed in 1947 as part of the Dalziel High School Former Pupils’ Association.
Since then it has gone from strength to strength and continues to raise many thousands of pounds for a variety of local and national charities.
Next year, the amateur theatre group will celebrate their 70th anniversary and are looking for additional cast members to help mark the milestone in the club’s history.
Each year in late April, the club perform a musical revue in Motherwell Theatre featuring popular music covering a wide variety of styles and eras.
The club also have a busy social calendar as well as a concert party group that entertains on a regular basis throughout Lanarkshire and beyond.
Next year, the club are staging Celebrate Good Times – a new musical revue featuring a wonderful selection of music from the likes of The Jersey Boys, One Direction, Queen, Adele and Michael Jackson as well as songs from musicals such as Mamma Mia and Les Miserables.
Rehearsals will begin in September. No previous experience is necessary, you just need a reasonable singing voice, be able to move to music and have a desire to work hard whilst having fun along the way.
As well as new members, the club would be delighted to welcome back former members who would be interested in taking part in all or part of the show.
