Blaze Rips Through Larkhall Take-Away
Road restrictions were put in place at Union street in Larkhall this morning following a fire.
The blaze ripped through Sizzler take-away at around midnight.
Three fire engines rushed to the scene to find the fire had spread to nearby properties.
No-one was injured during the fire, however police say nearby residents were evacuated.
A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted last night to a fire at a single-storey building in Larkhall.
“Operations Control was informed at 11.54pm on Tuesday, October 25, of the fire at a commercial property in Union Street which had subsequently spread to other properties.
“They immediately mobilised three fire engines including a high-reach appliance to the scene. Once crews were on the scene, further appliances were requested.
“There were no casualties. Firefighters tackled the fire using hose-reel jets and now have it under control. A full investigation into the cause will be carried out in due course.”
Police confirmed that the town's Union Street between – Wellgate Street and McNeill Street – will have a contraflow in operation with traffic lights put in place while building control investigate the impact the fire has caused to neighbouring properties.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police and the fire service were called to a fire at 95 Union Street at around midnight last night. No-one was injured, however neighbouring properties were evacuated. The cause of the fire is not yet known, however a joint investigation between fire and police will be carried out and our enquiries are ongoing.
“It is likely that Union Street, between Wellgate Street and McNeill Street, will remain have restrictions in place to allow further investigations to take place.”
