Hamilton Bus Stop Demolished
Emergency services rushed to Gateside Street in Hamilton after a vehicle collided with a bus stop. Police received reports around 7.45am, and officers arrived on scene to find that a car had crashed into the bay.
A police spokesman said: “It appears that a car lost control and crashed into the bus stop. No one was injured as a result.”
The incident obstructed the road during rush-hour traffic, with diversions put in place.
Scottish Power teams were also called to the scene after a cable was damaged and needed repaired.
It is believed the road was reopened a short time later, with a clean-up operation being led by South Lanarkshire Council to remove broken glass from the street.
One nearby resident said: “The bang it made was horrendous. I got the fright of my life then I heard all the glass shattering so I looked out the window and saw what happened.
“Luckily nobody was hurt. There doesn’t seem to be any harm done, could have been much worse.”
