Golf Club Celebrates Titles

13/08/15

East Kilbride golf club are celebrating after recording a clean sweep of Lanarkshire County Titles. The Nerston venue hosted the County Championship on July 12 and, after rounds of 69 and 72, Kenny Gallacher found himself tied with Ed Wood from Crow Wood Golf Club.

Kenny completed his victory with a birdie at the fifth extra hole to successfully defend the County Championship.

Meanwhile, rounds of 75 and 69 saw Cammy Boomer claim the Youth Championship crown.

Along with Kenny and Cammy, fellow East Kilbride GC members Jack McMorris, John Woodhouse and Ross Hinshelwood all qualified for the eight-man knockout Matchplay Championship.

John Woodhouse won through to the final where he would meet Ed Wood.

John, who is still a junior member, was very much the underdog against the more experienced Crow Wood man.

In a high quality match, littered with birdies, the players remained level after 21 holes when bad light brought proceedings to a halt.

The match was replayed last Thursday and 18-year-old John was fast out the traps again and was two up through ten with a mixture of birdies and fantastic short game skills.

Ed looked to be back in it at one down with three to go but a birdie at 16 and par at 17 secured the win for John, who prevailed 2&1 in another quality encounter to complete the clean sweep by East Kilbride Golf Club players.

Lanarkshire Events Convener Willie Sharpe presented the trophy to John in the clubhouse.
