The County You Live, Work And Play
First Album Almost Completed
With a new album almost finished, and the release of their first single, The Face on the Moon have been pretty busy. The alternative rock band from Hamilton have had some line-up changes in the past, but front man Steven Leonard says the group are now in a good place.
He said: “The band started in 2012 initially, but I had to find the right people to share the vision. It took some time, but the line-up now is perfect and we just click.”
Steven, alongside guitarist Derek (Dez) Parlane, drummer David McKeown and bassist Alan Hislop are gearing up for a few Glasgow shows alongside the release.
“We’ve got two gigs for now,” said Steven. The first one is in The Vale Bar on Saturday, September 26, with Athena’s Army supporting us. They’re an all-girl band with great songs and stacks of talent.
“The next one is our single launch at the Box in Glasgow on Saturday, October 24, for our debut single Be Glad/Rocket. We couldn’t decide on the title song, so it’s a double A-side. We’re very proud of them.”
The band are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to the new LP and it’s easy to see that Steven is happy with the outcome.
He added: “It’s been a long time coming but it’s almost finished and is going to be called Shelter. It was produced and mixed by Paul Winton at North Road Studios in Bellshill. This album is the proudest thing I’ve ever done and the lads feel the same.”
Although most of the hard work is finished, Steven says that the band are continuing to work on new material. He feels that the people in his life are the biggest inspiration for his songs.
He said: “The song writing process is ongoing and we’ve ended up with over 100 songs. My songs are very personal as I put emotions and memories on paper – writing about loved ones and life as I see it. There’s a song on the album called Between You and Me, and it was written by myself and my wife Cat. It’s grown so much.”
He notes that the band are also very in sync when it comes to creating new music and performing live. “We love playing together,” he said. “Dez writes similarly to me and that’s why we work so well. Alan and Dave provide the backbone - the strong bond between them is amazing to watch. They bring the groove.”
