Cumbernauld Village in shutdown
Cumbernauld Village Main Street went into lockdown after a masked gang blew up a cash machine and disappeared with a five figure sum.
The machine in question was located at Cumbernauld Village Pharmacy which incorporates a sub post office - and the incident took place at 1.05am on Wednesday, December 10.
Police received reports of a loud bang and a group trying to remove the machine from the wall. There are also reports that two getaway vehicles were involved.
Police maintained a daytime presence in the village which has been shut to traffic and are now examining CCTV footage of the area.
Detective Sergeant Cameron Miller is now asking locals for information on this daring raid.
He said: “The people responsible for this crime have not only stolen a large amount of money, they have also caused significant damage to the building.
“It is important they are traced as quickly as possible and I would appeal to anyone who heard or saw anything in the area around that time to come forward, no matter how minor they think their information may be.
“Some of the witnesses we’ve spoken to so far have reported seeing a group of men wearing masks and dark clothing around the location before entering a light coloured Audi motor vehicle. A second car, possibly a Volkswagen, was also seen near the premises around that time.
“Anyone who thinks they can assist with our enquiries can contact us on the non emergency number 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where they can remain anonymous.” he added.
