Bowling Club A Hit

11/07/15

Burnbank Hamilton Bowling Club became only the second Lanarkshire club to win the Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Inter-County Top 10.

As reigning Lanarkshire Top 10 champions, Burnbank represented the county in the competition, beating Clackmannan side Alva 6-2 in the preliminary round and Glasgow champions Kelvindale 5-3 in the first round.

West Barns from East Lothian stood in the way of a semi-final slot, but Burnbank won 6-2 at home to set up a clash with West Lothian side Bellsburn at Eddlewood.

Bellsburn gained close victories in the singles and fours, with Burnbank winning the triples 22-7 and the pairs to seal their place.

They won the final 6-2 against Dumfriesshire champions Kirkconnel at Eddlewood.

The Scottish Inter-County Top 10 is now in its 34th year and Lesmahagow are the only other county club to win the top accolade.

Lanarkshire Leagues’ Honorary President Ian Armstrong was particularly proud as this season is the 50th anniversary of his association.

Michael Docherty, Gerry Sullivan, Jim McCann, Hugh Letham, Thomas Kerr, Brian Davies, Mark McCourt, Jackie O’Neill, Sandy Hazeltine and Scott Fair represented Burnbank in the final.
