Bar West Voted Best Pub
A Hamilton pub has been voted the best in South Lanarkshire.
Bar West in Almada Street, lifted the top accolade in the National Bar and Pub Awards.
Judges of the awards, run by Pub & Bar Magazine, looked at a range of criteria from drinks and food selection, events and entertainment, and customer service to pub design and facilities.
The licensees Lynda Stevenson and Linda McKay, both from Hamilton, will now attend the National Pub & Bar Awards Grand Final at London’s iconic BAFTA theatre on Tuesday, May 24. Along with 94 other finalists, they’ll find out if they have won the best pub in Scotland award and the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year Award.
Licensee Lynda Stevenson from High Earnock said: “We’re elated and thrilled to have won this prestigious award. It’s a credit to the high standards, hard work and friendliness of all our staff and to our regular customers who help to create the friendly vibe we’ve become known for. This is our first award and we’re very proud of it. When you consider the size of South Lanarkshire and the number of pubs in it, it’s a real feather in our cap. We’ll keep everything crossed for May as it would be wonderful if Bar West won the best pub in Scotland award in May, for us and for Hamilton.”
Since taking on the pub in 2007, the two friends have transformed its fortunes turning it into a much-loved watering hole offering freshly-cooked food, live music, karaoke and sports coverage.
In 2015 Bar West underwent a major refurbishment, moving the entrance, modernising the interior, opening up windows and creating an outdoor space with a retractable roof. As a result, operators say, food sales have grown.
Tristan O’Hana, one of the judges and editor of Pub & Bar magazine, commented: “South Lanarkshire has some amazing pubs and the competition was extremely high, so it’s a real accolade for Bar West to have been selected as the best in South Lanarkshire.
“Lynda and Linda are incredible operators and we’re very much looking forward to celebrating their success with them at our grand final in London in May.”
