Attackers Assault Dog Walker

22/01/16

Police are stepping up the hunt to find a gang of four youths after the unprovoked attack of a man who was out walking his dog.

The shocking assault occurred at around 9pm on Sunday, January 17, as the victim was crossing the footbridge at the A723 in Carfin.

One of the youths approached the 45-year-old dogwalker and asked for a cigarette.

When the man refused, he was set upon by the gang of four and was struck with what police believe was a metal pole.

The man was then kicked in the back before the youths made their escape running across the bridge in the direction of Newarthill.

Bravely, the victim then got up and drove himself to the nearby Wishaw General Hospital.

Whilst he was there, he managed to notify police officers who were already at the hospital of the attack.

The people responsible are described as four male youths with each of them wearing baseball caps.

A Police Scotland spokesman said that officers were following a “positive line of enquiry”.
