Airdire School Bus Crash
A double-decker bus carrying pupils collided with a car as it travelled to Caldervale High School in Airdrie. The pupils suffered “cuts and bruises” in the crash and were taken to Monklands hospital and Wishaw General.
The bus picked up the pupils from the Chapelhall area of Airdrie and it was making its way to Caldervale Secondary School, on Towers Road.
As it travelled along Petersburn Road at 8.40am, Friday 11th September 2015 near Dunrobin Primary School, the bus collided with a Vauxhall Insignia.
The four-year-old girl was a passenger in the car which was being driven by a man. He was uninjured.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and police officers closed the road to investigate the crash.
Karen Kubica, Head Teacher of Caldervale High School, said: “On receiving a report about the accident, school staff attended the scene of the accident immediately to assist emergency services. The majority of pupils from the bus were able to be accompanied to school by school staff."
She said that 21 pupils were assessed for minor injuries at the scene of the accident; 11 pupils were admitted to Monklands Hospital with minor injuries; and seven pupils with minor injuries were taken to Wishaw Hospital.
All pupils have now been discharged from hospital.
Ms Kubica added: “School staff attended hospital and waited until parents were able to meet their children. We are extremely grateful to the emergency services and staff at Dunrobin primary school for their professionalism, support and care. We are keeping parents updated on the situation.
